August Empties

Talk about time flying by! Summer went by too quickly, but after seeing all the new nail polish colors at a nail salon yesterday I know I will enjoy fall. However, this article is not about new stuff, but instead about oldies since August is gone in a blink and it's time to talk about empties for the month. It seems August was mostly about face care and using up most products from that category. I also finished some body and hair products, but only a few makeup items (though new makeup kept coming in this month).

Let's start talking about empties with Ole Henriksen facial wipes (link). The brand updated its packaging recently, but I still had the old one. Actually, I found these at TJ Maxx when I was looking for some wipes to clean my hands when applying makeup. These worked great, and I even tried them on my face. The wipes have a pleasant scent, they are moist, but not soaking wet and they remove makeup well.

Sephora Total Softies facial cotton pads (link) didn't impress me. I love my Shiseido cotton, and wouldn't trade it for these. Sephora's cotton was soft, but it didn't hold its shape and started separating when taking out of the container. It was thicker than Shiseido and combined with separation it was a bit hard to figure if I'm taking a couple of pads that are stuck together or if I'm taking just one. Like I said, these aren't bad, but not as good as others.

I've gone through another one of Madre Labs witch hazel toner (link). It's a very basic witch hazel toner, but it does what I want it to do and the price is right, so I can't complain. I'm on my next one already.

I finally finished Laneige Moisturizing Foam Cleanser* (link) that I received with a travel kit from the brand. It was a good cleanser, very gentle on the skin, and it didn't foam much. It was creamy and hydrating, so I think it would work well during winter (cold months) or for those who have dry skin. During the summer I wanted a lighter face wash, so I used this up as a brush cleanser.

I wouldn't buy Pacifica Pore Refine face mask (link) in full size. This little sample lasted pretty well, but I didn't notice any changes in my skin. The whole experience was just ok, and when I use products I want my experience to be good or above that. The mask was clear in texture and felt very light on the skin. I didn't see any immediate or long term results with it.

I enjoyed using Tatcha Violet-C Radiance Mask (link), but I'm not rushing to buy it in full size. While the sample lasted long, I think this is a product that needs continuous us to show its benefits. The skin felt soft, hydrated and plump after using it. I also loved the smell and beautiful color. In the summertime I'm looking for more detoxifying, cleaning masks, but I might consider getting this one later in the year when I need more moisturizing properties.

While Tatcha mask can wait, a sample of Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask (link) was not enough, so I rushed to buy it in full size. This mask has a very unique texture that is soft, airy, light. It smells great and it feels nice on the skin. A little goes a long way, so hopefully this mask will last a long time as the price is high. The mask makes my skin bright, glow-y, awake and full. The skin is left so soft! Besides, once applied to the skin it gives a cooling effect and that feeling lasts for a while after washing the mask off. I love it as it's very refreshing and unique.

Let's start going through this huge pile from Pacifica Glow Baby face scrub (link). It wasn't a harsh scrub, but it wasn't anything special to make me want more. This scrub was gentle enough, left skin feeling soft and didn't irritate it.

I didn't like Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream (link) as it felt too silicone-y on my skin. I felt as if my skin can't breath through a layer of this cream even when I applied only a pea size of it to my face and neck. I'm not sure if I can blame this cream, but around the same time I started using it, I noticed my skin got little bumps/pimples which cleared out after I stopped using the cream.

Origins Plantsription anti-aging treatment lotion (link) was ok, but I'm not interested in purchasing full size. I applied it with a cotton pad all over my face after cleansing, but I didn't love it. I feel that its milky texture would have gone better over a serum, not before one, but due to the nature of application I couldn't apply it the other way. Overall, I'm not a fan of Origins products and they're mostly just ok for me without doing anything amazing.

Finally I used up Drunk Elephant Shaba Complex Eye Serum (link). I've purchased it in February, so I still have the old packaging. This serum lasted pretty well. I've been using it once or twice daily, but I made a break of about a month as I got bored of using the same product for so long. Though it is called serum, the texture is of a light cream, so I used it on top of my eye serums/gels that have lighter consistency. I liked it a lot and I would gladly repurchase it in the future.

I have a whole review on C.Lavie The Eye Contour .11 eye cream* (link) on my blog, so I'll try to be quick with my thoughts on it. While I loved its texture and the brand itself, there was something that didn't work with my skin. The cream kept pilling off the skin. In fact, this happened with the whole C.Lavie line, so I gave away face serum and face cream for someone who will enjoy them. I tried using the eye cream in a few different ways, but the result was the same. I was fine for a while using it at night, but after a while I gave up and used it up on my legs. To my surprise that worked great and it didn't roll off my skin.

I used Biossance Squaline+Pepetide Eye Gel (link) twice a day. I purchased it in th end of April and I think I started using it in May, so I'm pretty happy with how long it lasted, but since same amount of Drunk Elephant's eye serum lasted twice as long, I wish I used Biossance longer. This light eye gel felt airy on the skin, but was packed with a lot of moisture. My eyes loved it and I would gladly repurchase it.

I like MyChelle products and tried a lot in the past. I'm trying to rediscover the brand, and one of the products I selected for that was Sun Shield Unscented SPF28 (link). Mine was still in the old packaging with an expiration date in July though I kept using it throughout the summer (scent, texture, consistency had no changes). I haven't finished it up, but I'm getting of the rest as it's expired and I won't be ale to use it anymore. I've been using this sunscreen in the mornings while walking the dogs. Afterwards I wash my face and continue with my morning routine.

Products I regret buying? Laidbare From Dusk Till Dawn Vitamin C serum (link). I'm not into oils for the face, but I gave this one a chance. This serum is a blend of oils and feels really heavy. It doesn't sink in fully into the skin and sits on top of it even when a tiniest amount is used. Many times I'll use products for a different purpose if I can't use them as intended, so I tried to use this serum up as a moisturizer for my legs. I had to finally say enough is enough, because even on my legs it wouldn't sink in and I could feel complete oiliness even after a couple hours after the application.

I had a mini size of Philosophy Take a Deep Breath Gel Cream with SPF30 (link) and I enjoyed using it. It was very light on the skin, but it felt hydrating, a little goes a long way and the smell was nice. I used it when I needed some basic light moisturizer, and this cream delivered that fully.

Currently I'm into different acids, so I tried The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% (link). I used it in the PM after my serum as an acid treatment and moisturizer in one. My skin really loved it and responded well to it as in the mornings my skin looked bright and even. I didn't like that this acid has silicone, but it didn't really bother me while using it. The cream went on the skin easily, it sank into the skin almost in an instant and seemed to mattify it as well. It seemed that it works some magic as the moment I applied it, my skin would loose all the shine from other products as if Azelaic Acid absorbed it. The skin felt comfortable and didn't lack hydration.

Another product that I liked is BareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion serum (link). The consistency of this serum is between a lotion and a serum, so it was thick and moisturizing enough to be used as a facial moisturizer on top of another serum. I really enjoyed it.

While Clarins Multi-Active Night Cream (link) wasn't heavy in texture, it felt heavy and silicone-y on the skin. Besides, it was fragranced too much, so I didn't like using it on my face and ended up using as a body cream. So far I haven't used a single Clarins cream that I'd like as they all are scented too strong.

I used up Timeless Coenzyme Q10 face serum* (link). I have a review on Timeless products on my blog in case you are interested. This serum felt like a basic non-watery serum. It was light, provided enough moisture for the skin, it wasn't greasy or sticky.

Another product from Timeless is 100% Pure Hyaluronic Acid serum* (link). I liked it a lot and I could tell that my skin was more hydrated while using it. This serum wasn't sticky, applied and absorbed to the skin easily.

By now you probably know my love for Biobelle face masks. I've tried a lot of them, but my favorite is still Purifying Black Lace Hydrogel #Glam Mask (link). It moisturizes and plumps the skin leaving it very soft and bright. I use it about once a week and leave it on the skin for about an hour (the mask starts drying by that time). It feels wonderful on the skin and does a great job.

Biobelle #Decadence Sheet Mask* (link) is great when the skin feels thirsty. This mask gives plenty of hydration. I'm not a fan of its scent scent, but it doesn't bother me. My only issue with this sheet mask is rinsing the face is needed after using it. I much more prefer sheet masks that don't require rinsing as I like to apply them on my face after I apply serum.

Beautigenix Lifting Mask* (link) makes my skin feel plump, shaped, but not tight or feeling uncomfortable. It also hydrates the skin and leaves it very soft. I feel like I say that about most of my sheet masks, but that's something that I expect sheet masks to do. I want my skin to benefit from all the goodness that is in the mask's liquid, and when I need detoxifying/cleaning I choose different types of masks. Getting back to Beautigenix masks, I enjoyed using it, but I wished for something more (added effect or more spa-like scent).

When I saw Glamglow Bubblesheet Mask (link) I knew I have to try it out, so no wonder I tried it out within a couple hours of its arrival. This bubbling mask is supposed to deep cleanse the skin, but I didn't feel any effect like that. I loved the material of the mask as it was a sturdy cloth that felt strong and luxurious. The mask has to go on a damp face and will start bubbling withing 60 seconds with full effect at 3 minutes. It did bubble, but it wasn't that quick, so I kept for 10+ minutes just to get more out of it. I put it on a damp face, so I'm wondering if I had to have even more water on the skin. While the mask was on my face, I felt no tingling, no irritation, just really nothing. After removing the mask you're supposed to smooth the residue over the skin and then wash it off. I did just that. The remaining product feels like a creamy face wash. My skin felt hydrated and soft afterwards, the mask didn't dry it, but I didn't see any deep cleansing effect. I enjoyed my experience and I'd love to use it again, but I don't think I would repurchase the mask myself as it's too expensive for the effect it gives.

Leaders Too Much Fun In The Sun Sheet Mask (link) was exactly what I needed after a long day in the sun. It hydrates the skin, soothes and calms it, and that's all I asked from it. My skin drank up the serum from this mask very quickly.

August was no exception when it comes to sheet masks, and the ones from Leaders 7 Wonders line (link) are still my favorites. I enjoy using them all, but if I had to pick only one Mediterranean Olive Brightening Mask (link) would be it! They all plump the skin, make it hydrated and soft, but the Olive one gives extra glow to the skin. I've purchased 3 boxes with 10 masks in each, so for now I'm trying to use what I have, but I will definitely be repurchasing the brightening mask in the future.

I've used up Dr. Brite Whitening Toothpaste* (link) and Cleansing Mouth Rinse* (link). I have a review on this brand on my blog, but I'll still mention what I like/dislike about these products. This toothpaste tastes very mild and doesn't leave minty aftertaste. While not everyone likes it, I really enjoyed it as I prefer such toothpastes for my morning teeth brushing before breakfast. I hate eating and drinking coffee with the minty toothpaste aftertaste in my mouth, so this toothpaste served it's purpose. The mouthwash was ok, but I didn't like it as much. I rarely used it as I wanted more minty and less sweet taste in it.

I also finished Cocofloss dental floss in Fresh Coconuts* (link). I was so excited to see that Sephora started carrying the brand. This floss is fun to use and comes in a very sleek and convenient container. The flavor is mild and wasn't strong at all. I'm on my second floss now and waiting for another one to arrive in the mail. I just wish they came out with more flavors though.

I feel that Alba Botanica Acnedote face & body scrub (link) makes into my empties each month. I really can't live without this scrub, and keep repurchasing it over and over again. I've never really tried it for my face, but I love it on my legs.

I also have two other body scrubs from Alba Botanica: sugar scrub (link) and salt scrub (link). I loved the sugar one so much that I'm about to repurchase it. The sugar granules are so fine that they make a wonderful gentle scrub with a uniform texture. The skin is left hydrated, it has a light film, but nothing oily/greasy. I still use a body moisturizer afterwards. Th salt scrub wasn't bad, but it was different and it was too harsh on my skin. The salt particles were big and sharp on my skin, so I only used it on my feet. I enjoyed it for that, but I don't see a need for a separate scrub just for my feet. Besides I wasn't too crazy about the texture where oil is separated from salt and needed mixing together before use.

I included Nubian Heritage Carrot & Pomegranate Soap (link) even though I'm still using it. I wanted to mention it, because I love it so much and I though I might not have the box saved by the time I use it up. This soap has exfoliating beads that are gentle yet effective on the skin. It also smells heavenly! I love using it in my shower and I love that it doesn't dry my skin.

I constantly purchase Whole Foods 365 Hand Cream Trios (link to different scent) as they are long lasting, smell great and perform wonderfully. I've purchased this cream in a set sometime in winter and since a little goes a long way it lasted me pretty well.

Medicine Mama's Sweet Bee Magic All In One Healing Skin Cream (link) is a natural alternative to petroleum jelly. I've used this one on the skin, but later I've been using it as a hand balm. While it leaves my skin very soft, it's a bit too greasy for using before bedtime. I blame my habit of grabbing more product and not waiting for it to sink in before going to bed, but I'm just not patient with such products.

I'm not a dry shampoo/texturizing spray person, so I finally decided to get rid of all that I have: Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray (link), Goldwell Kerasilk Color Gentle Dry Shampoo* (link) and Eva NYC Freshen Up Dry Shampoo* (link). Not that they don't do what they promise, but I just can't stand the way they feel in my hair. My hair may look great, I might not even touch it, but I feel like my hair is super dry and not nice to the touch when I use products like this. I prefer to just wash my hair.

I can't live without Giovanni Vitapro Fusion Leave-In Hair Treatment (link) and I keep repurchasing it for years. I spray it on my towel dried through the whole hair length and apply JMO detangler to the ends. That's all I need to do to have beautiful, shiny hair that's easy to brush.

MooGoo Natural Protein Shot Leave-In Conditioner* (link). This product was good when used as intended and a tiniest amount was needed, but I enjoyed using it as a hair mask even more. I would apply this conditioner to my hair at night, braid it and leave until the morning. My hair would be extra soft and hydrated once I washed it.

It seems that Rare Elements Pure Shampoo (link) lasted forever. I've purchased it in April and I've just finished it now. Actually, I shared this shampoo with my man, because it was so concentrated and very little was needed for one use. This shampoo hydrates hair without weighting it down.

I've been buying new makeup this month, so I didn't have many products that I've used up. However, I've finished yet another Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder (link). It's been my favorite mineral powder for a couple years now as it gives a natural and flawless look. I'm already on a new one, so you'll keep seeing it in my empties and favorites.

It's my second or third Dior Maximizer 3D Lash Primer (link). It doesn't give and obvious change, but when wearing it I can tell that something is so much better about my lashes.

I wouldn't repurchase any of the 3 mascaras: YSL Vinyl Couture (link), Tarte Gifted (link), YSL The Shock (link). While I usually prefer big, bold, volumized lashes, out of these three I enjoyed Tarte the most even though it gave the most natural look. It was also in brown color, which I never buy myself, but this mascara worked perfectly for those days when I didn't want to wear any mascara or just wanted something minimal.

I'm not including samples in my empties anymore, but I wanted to mention Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Pencil (link), because I was pleasantly surprised by it. The sample was tiny and I was worried that it won't b enough for both eyes. Not only that it was enough for that, but it also lasted me for about a week. The result was beautiful and natural looking, and I loved it so much that I already have it in my wishlist.

Brand Review: Ogee

I've been using Ogee products for a while now, and I'm loving them. The brand has 4 organic products available offering cleansing wipes, face serum, jojoba oil and lip balm. Three of them became part of my everyday skincare routine, and I'm going to review them in this post. I do have Jojoba Restore Face Oil* (link), but I haven't used it yet, and I'm not sure if I will because of my relationship with oils.

Seeds of Youth Serum* (link) is the product that left the best impression on me. This cloudy serum has a light texture, but it's not watery. It acts as a liquid-y moisturizer, so during the warm season I use it as my main moisturizer. I apply a serum on clean skin and then I apply this serum from Ogee. It would be too light during cold weather for me, but in the summertime it gives enough moisture and it's not too heavy. The serum feels comfortable on the skin, applies and sinks in well. It isn't sticky and doesn't irritate the skin. My skin feels plump, hydrated and very soft afterwards.

Ogee has an interesting lip balm that is called Sculpted Lip Oil* (link). By hearing the name, one would imagine it would be liquid, but it has a hard form (just like a regular lip balm). The lip balm holds its shape, but it's not too hard and makes it very comfortable to apply to the lips. It has a mild minty smell/flavor, which doesn't linger and doesn't bother me. While the balm feels light on the lips, it gives continuous moisture for a while. The lips are left soft and hydrated.

Daily Facial Cleansing Cloths* (link) are good, but not the best I've tried. They are tough and don't tear/wear easily as they are of a little bit stretchy material. These facial wipes are moist, but I wish they were more wet as they seem to lack "power" to melt the makeup. I never use makeup removing wipes as my main cleansing method, so these work fine, but not perfectly. They seem to be a little too dry to do a good job. However, Ogee face wipes remove both eye and face makeup. Since I wash my face with a cleanser afterwards, I'm ok with what they do, but if you use wipes as your only face cleanser, you might want to try something else. I've been also using these wipes to clean my hands when applying makeup and they are great for that!

BeautyFix August 2017 Unboxing and Review

Last month I was tempted to get BeautyFix subscription box (link), but I didn't, because I wasn't convinced enough. Some months seem to have great products while others have nothing I'd be excited about. However, after watching August box's unboxing on Youtube I was sold right there right then and placed my order.

BeautyFix can be purchased as a one time box ($34.95) or as a subscription ($24.95/month). I went with the subscription option, and while it's easy to cancel it anytime, I'm keeping mine after seeing the spoiler for September. This box contains a mix of 6+ full, deluxe and sample sized products that total $100 or more. I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to the value of subscription boxes as I don't see value in samples as well as in deluxe samples unless they're sold in those sizes regularly. This particular BeautyFix box has 2 full sized items that retail $61 total, so that's the value I put to the box. While it's not $100+, I'm still very happy with what's in the box. Well, I better be happy as I ordered knowing what I'll get. The shipping was extremely fast as I ordered it on Wednesday, the box was shipped Thursday and delivered Saturday.

The first full size item is Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser (retails $22, link). It's a gel cleanser that doesn't strip off the skin, but removes all impurities. It actually feels moisturizing and non-drying at all. I've used this cleanser in the past, but can't remember much though since I wanted to use it again, it must be good to my skin. I can't describe the scent, but it's not overpowering. It smells light and pleasantly.

The second full size product is Foreo Luna Play facial cleansing device (retails $39, link). I'm very sensitive when it comes to vibrating facial products (that includes electric toothbrushes), so I thought I'll give it away. I've tried Luna Play in the past when I received it as part of GWP, but after seeing this cutie again, I think I might give it a chance. Luna Play is the one that is supposed to work up to 100 times and doesn't have a chargeable/changeable battery. I think once the battery is dead, it can be used as a regular face washing pad.

I'm very excited about MD Solar Sciences Mineral Tinted Creme SPF 30 (1.7 oz retails $32, link). I walk my dogs before my morning routine and since I use AHA/BHA/retinol products in the evening, I apply sunscreen to my face first thing in the morning. I can't wait to try this out as my current sunscreen is expiring and I need to find something new and anything with a tint doesn't hurt. I've only tested out on my hand and it feels silicone-y, but that doesn't bother me as I will be washing it off before my morning routine.

August's BeautyFix box also has two samples from Dermatologic Cosmetic Labaratories: Hydra Boost Finishing Serum (1oz retails $110, link) and Skin Renewal Complex SPF 30 (1oz retails $130, link). They both sound promising and exciting, but I haven't tried any yet.

A mini sized Dermablend Loose Setting Powder (1oz retails $27, link) is also in the box. It comes in Translucent color. Since I haven't tried it yet, I can't tell anything else, but I've heard good things about this brand.

Last but not the least are two health related products. I've tried Perricone MD Super Berry with Acai Supplemental Powder (30 packets retail $37.50, link) once recently, but I didn't like it. The taste is not the worst, but it's not for me, so I doubt I'll have this one. The next supplement is from Keranique and it's a 7 day supply of Daily Essentials dietary supplement (30ct retails $49, link). The ingredient list sounds promising and contains essential vitamins and minerals. I'm not sure how much effect can be seen after a week, but I'm trying to be optimistic. What I love about this product as each day's tablets come in separate packets, so it's easy to pack them for traveling or to carry them with you in case you want to take them with your lunch at work, etc.

New In Stores: Lip Care

I love just about anything when it comes to beauty, but I feel that lip care products are often neglected or not cared as much for. I have a few lip balm brands that I've been loving for years and I rarely buy anything different. However, with all the hype about a new lip balm from EOS, I had to research it and I also found a few other exciting products.

It's been a hard task finding EOS Crystal lip balm (link) as it seemed to be sold out or not in stores yet wherever I went. Though finally I've found it at my Walgreens in Hibiscus Peach flavor. I've tried Eos lip balms in the past, but I've never liked them as they didn't give me enough hydration. This one seems to be a little different in shape and different in hydration. It's a clear lip balm that has a little bit bouncy (like rubber) texture. The flavor is good, not overpowering, but strong enough and lasts for a little while. It reminds me of some candy from my childhood. You can see in the photo how the texture wears and gets a bit uneven when using the product. This balm feels very light on the lips and gives good hydration. I had to keep reapplying the regular Eos balms constantly, but this one lasts well. I think the packaging is a bit bulky to carry in a handbag, so I keep it on my makeup table for a quick use before my makeup application.

Just when I started to feel that there's nothing new in Pacifica line, they came out with a bunch of new lip balms and a lip scrub. The flavors sound interesting, but I'm the fruity lip balm type of a girl, so there's only a few that I'm interested in. The one I purchased to try out is called Rainbow Watermelon (link) and it's yummy! While it smells/tastes great, it light enough and doesn't last long. The lip balm is in perfect texture and isn't too soft or too hard. It applies on the lips easily and gives good moisture. However, apart from a cute packaging and nice flavor, it's nothing too exciting about it. Yet I still want to try a few more flavors.

I received my Pacifica Candied Lips Like Sugar lip scrub (link) on a hot day and was worried that it might have melted. It did not, but when I tried it for the first time, it was too soft and applied to the lips too easily. There was no exfoliation as the scrub just piled on the lips. I had to use my fingers to get the effect. However, once I let the scrub stay in the house for a while, the texture hardened a bit making it good enough so that it would exfoliate the lips when being applied. It's good, but not perfect and I use my fingers to get the most of it. This lip scrub is more convenient to apply that lip scrubs in different containers, but it still needs additional effort to work on the lips. This is the main reason why I don't think I'll repurchase it. As for the flavor, it's very light and I mostly taste sugar as this scrub is packed with sugar granules (you can see that in the photo).

Boxycharm August 2017 Unboxing and Review

I bet by now everyone heard of subscription boxes. There are so many of them available - shaving club, snacks, tropical fruits, candies from all around the word, baby stuff, workout outfits, pet boxes, and, of course, beauty boxes. The first time I heard about subscription boxes was 5-6 years ago, and I was so intrigued  that I got one called Eco Emi (I ended up getting 2-3 boxes probably). I don't remember much about it, but I still remember a couple of things it had inside and that most of the products didn't work for me or looked too handmade (not that it's a bad thing, but I wanted something more sophisticated). I just didn't see value in the box, so I canceled my subscription.

Even now I don't see value in many of those boxes. I know it works for many people, but I just don't want to pay $10-15 for a box full of samples that I can get in stores for free. However, very recently I found out about Boxycharm (link), which offers 4-5 FULL SIZE products retailing $100 or more. There are some items that everyone gets (sometime different shades of the same item) and some that varies. The box is $21/month. After looking at a few past boxes I loved what I saw and immediately signed up for one. I did know one spoiler at that time, so it was easier to make my decision. So let's look at my box and let me share my thoughts about this subscription box.

I'm not a patient person, so I knew all the variations of the box before receiving it. I would have been happy with any of them, so I'm satisfied with what I've received though there are a couple things I'm not going to use. Augsut 2017 box is called Beach Please and features Tarte eyeshadow palette, Pur eyelashes and Royal & Langnickel brushes. The other 2 items were different in the boxes.

The spoiler I was so excited about is Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume II eyeshadow palette (retails $36, link). Currently at Sephora it's on special for $18. I'm not into eyeshadows, so I only have 1 eyeshadow in my makeup collection (I use bronzer and highlighters on my eyes when I want something on). This palette is beautiful and the colors are very universal, neutral and basic, which I love. I've read various reviews about these eyeshadows, but after playing with them yesterday and wearing them today, I can say that I like them and they are fine for my needs. Some colors seem to apply easier and are more pigmented then others, but overall all the colors I've tried applied nicely and held well through the day. My eyes felt comfortable and weren't irritated, which is a big bonus. I still don't need a bunch of eyeshadows and I'm past my purple-green-blue-pink-etc. eyeshadow phase, so something like this will be loved and used.

Next item that was in all boxes is Royal & Langnickel Moda Pro 3-piece brush set (retails $26, link) featuring a pointed blush brush, a chisel brush and a crease brush. These brushes are super soft and 100% vegan and cruelty-free. I love that the handles not only have a cute design, but they don't slip as well. I've only tried the crease brush so far, but all of them will find their purpose in my makeup collection.

I didn't take separate photos of Bellapierre Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Ebony(retails $15, link) and Pur Pro Eyelashes in style Bombshell (retails $14, link) because those are the two items I'm not going to use. I've used eyeliners in the past, but only on my lower lash line. However, I think I look and I feel better without one. It was an item that was in 2 of the 3 boxes. I've never really used fake lashes (I tried unsuccessfully), so that's another product that I will not use. This was something that all boxes received in one of two styles.

The third item that I loved is Aloette Face Paint in color Blooming Berry (retails $35, link). Two of the three boxes received this item in one of three available shades. I was very happy with the shade, but I was hesitant about the item itself. This face paint can be used on the lips or cheeks, but I will only use on my lips. The color is beautiful and very pigmented. It applies easily on the lips, only a small amount is needed and it feels very hydrating. The lips look full and shiny, the color doesn't bleed (I like to apply a little thicker) and it lasts well. I've used it both yesterday and today and the color lasted for 4+ hours. While I lost some of the shine when eating and drinking, the pigmentation was still on my lips and my lips felt very comfortable (no dryness at all). Initially I thought I might like this product and use once in a while, but I love it a lot and I know I will use it often.

To sum it up, I do see value in Boxycharm. I understand that it's impossible to get all the things and shades I'd love in a subscription box, so I'm happy with my box where I'll keep 3 items and give away the other 2. I enjoyed the box a lot and even with the things I'm not going to use $21 is a good price for the box. I'm still not sure if I'm getting next month's box as I saw another eyeshadow palette as a spoiler and I do not need one. I might wait until more spoilers come out to see if something else tempts me, but I know for sure that I will keep my eye on Boxycharm and will get one in the future again.

What's New in Stores: Makeup

I love shopping and I do it a lot, but I don't share my haul posts anymore. I used to do that when I first started my blog, but I stopped as I think such posts don't give much information. Besides, I often repurchase my favorite products, so my hauls are too repetitive. However, I decided to introduce new type of posts where I will talk about items that are new in stores and that I've bought and tested already. This way I can give a little bit more information and my opinion on those products.

The product I'm most excited about is Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Foundation (link). It's a pretty pricey foundation ($58 for 0.84 fl.oz./25ml), but it's so worth it. I've got into liquid foundations very recently, so there were a couple products that I enjoyed a lot, but once I tried this one I knew it is special. It gives a full matte coverage, but I think it can be applied thinner to give medium-full coverage. I only need a small amount to cover my whole face and neck and if I need more coverage on certain areas, then I apply an extra layer. It is matte, but it still leaves the face looking alive and fresh. The foundation has a yummy scent (watermelon or some fruity smell) which is an extra bonus. I've worn this foundation both for a couple of hours when going out and all day long during a hot and humid weather. In both cases it lasted fantastic and looked perfect at the end of the day. There was no wear off or patchiness anywhere on the face. I have light skin and wear products in light shades, but this YSL foundation seems to run lighter. I've got color B30 Almond and it is an ok shade for me though I look on the lighter side and when going out at night I almost wish I had more color on me. I've got a sample of B40 and I think that would be my ideal color that matches my skin and doesn't make me look pale or tan.

Next is Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in color Eclair (link). Bite Beauty makes wonderful lip products that contain food grade ingredients, so you could even eat them (and considering how many lip products get in our mouths, we kinda literally eat them). I have a ton of lip products, but I was so tempted to try out this new product that I let myself pick one color only. That color ended being Eclair, which is a soft everyday rose shade. The lipstick is easy to apply, it doesn't bleed, it's very pigmented and opaque. It wears well, but it's not overly long lasting. It has a creamy finish and doesn't dry the lips. The shade and finish are so beautiful and universal that I would wear it not only during the day while running errands, but for a night out as well.

I'm picky when it comes to mascaras, but I rarely buy any myself. I usually end up using the mini ones I get as GWP. That's perfect for me as I use a mascara for only 3 months, and I never run out of it during that time even when using one everyday. Besides, I don't feel guilty if a mascara doesn't live up to my expectations and I just throw it away. Though recently two brands released their mascaras at the drugstore and they both intrigued me enough, so I went and purchased both. I've loved Covergirl mascaras in the past, so I felt confident purchasing the new Total Tease (link, top wand in the photo above). It has a plastic wand (I really have no preference with that). It does a fantastic job separating lashes. It gives both volume and length to the lashes and combs them beautifully.

The other mascara is L'oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise (link, bottom wand in the photo), and I didn't put high hopes into it. I've never been into L'oreal mascaras and they never delivered what they promised. At least not for me as people seem to love them and I would try a highly recommended mascara and be disappointed. Lash Paradise is being compared with Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, which is one of my favorite ones, so that made me give a chance to L'oreal. To be completely honest, I love this L'oreal mascara! It makes my lashes look fantastic. It gives a lot of volume, but doesn't make them look unnatural or overweighted with product. It separates and combs lashes wonderfully. It also has a more neutral scent while Covergirl Total Teaze is fragranced a little too much for my liking. I usually choose to use L'oreal when going out at night or when I want to make a statement with my lashes, and I choose Covergirl when I want big, but less sedated lash look. However, while both mascaras are great, they both tend to accumulate chunks of mascara on the wands, so they need wiping off once in a while.

Last, but not the least is Smashbox Precise Highlighting Brush (link). Smashbox came out with a whole line of exciting brushes recently, but while I tried and had some of their brushes in the past, they've never been my favorite. Though this new line had some unique brushes that I saved to my wishlist. I was debating whether or not I need any new brushes and having in mind my previous relationship with Smashbox I wasn't rushing to make a decision. However, while I was at Macy's recently, I stopped by makeup department and saw that they had the whole line in stock (these brushes are sold through Smashbox.com and Macy's only). Well, I touched them and fell in love. I knew I had to have them, so the first one I got is Precision Highlighting brush, but I will definitely get a couple more for the face and maybe some for eyes. The brushes are very soft, and a lot of them have unique shape. For example, this highlighter brush is cut at an angle, which is unusual for this kind of a small highlighting brush. You can see it's shape in the photos where it's more flat in the back. This brush does a wonderful job and applies highlighter so easily. It hugs the contour of the face and the whole process feels so natural.

Brand Review: Biesecker

I can't believe we're already one week into August. Time flies by so quickly! I've been meaning to review this organic brand for a while, and finally I'm doing it. I'm not 100% into organic and natural products, but I do my best to read ingredients and to choose the best I can. When it comes to organic skin/body/hair care, things are so much easier as I don't have to wonder if something is good or bad. Though like with anything else, I still pay attention to what's in the products as they might contain something my skin doesn't tolerate.

The brand I'm talking about is Biesecker (link). I'm sure you will read more about them on their website, but I just wanted to mention a few points that are close to my heart. This brand not only uses natural and organic products, but they also do not adversely affect soil/water/woodlands/wildlife in the manufacturing process. Another great act of Biesecker's is that a portion of all profits is donated to pursue a treatment and eventual cure of Crohn's Disease. I always feel better when I shop with companies that have special causes and add to the greater good.

I love body scrubs, so I'm going to review Biesecker Spa Sensations Salt Scrub* (link) and Gentle Touch Sugar Scrub* (link). In general I'm not a fan of salt scrubs as they are often more abrasive and harsher on the skin, but this one is so fine that I could barely tell which one is which if I didn't look at the container. I used both of these scrubs all over my body. The only way to tell a difference otherwise was that if I had a cut/scrape on my body, I could feel salt.

As you can see from the photo, both scrubs look similar in texture. They are both coconut oil and cocoa butter based, but these ingredients are infused into the scrubs, so the texture is uniform and oil doesn't separate from sugar/salt. However, in cooler temperatures cocoa butter and coconut oil get solid and hard-ish, so you need a spatula to take the product out of the container. When the temperature warms up, the scrubs soften up and can be easily with fingers.

Both of the scrubs have very gently scents, they feel nice on the skin and doesn't irritate it. I'm usually leaning towards sugar scrubs, but with these two it's hard to pick one. I think I still prefer sugar as it goes over irritated skin better, but as far as doing their job, they're both great.

Goat Milk Body Lotion in Lavender Vanilla* (link) has a beautiful texture, which is not too runny and not too hard. A little bit goes a long way giving a long lasting hydration to the body. It applies easily and absorbs well. I think this could perform even as a nice foot cream. I've been using this lotion quite often, but I'm still not halfway through. Biesecker has 4 options for goat milk lotions (Pomegranate Melon sounds so yummy!). Lavender is not my number one choice when it comes to scents, but my nose can't really detect it in this lotion. However, I can smell goat milk and vanilla, and this combination is not my favorite especially since the lotion has a strong scent which lingers for a while. I really wish it was less fragranced and the scent would be barely detectable to make the product easier to use.

Next product that I tried is Cracked Hand and Foot Cream* (link). This cream has a light, lotion-like texture, but it performs as promised. Because of it's lightness you might think you need to apply more of it, but you only need a little bit (you can always apply more later). It doesn't absorb as quickly as the body lotion, so it's better to work with smaller amounts or else you might end up jut moving the cream around. The scent is barely there, but I can smell minty notes, which is nice to use on feet as it gives extra refreshment.
