Brand Review: Dr. Hauschka Makeup - Part 1

I found out about Dr. Hauschka many years ago when I was getting to know natural/organic skincare. It is a brand that uses high quality natural ingredients and has a wide selection of face and body care products as well as makeup. I'm very excited about this post as I had a chance to review their new makeup line* and I found some items that already became my favorites. The whole line comes in a beautiful, sleek and sophisticated packaging that looks very high end. None of them feel heavy, but they don't look like cheap plastic as well. So far all of the items worked well when using at home or carrying around in my purse and they are great for traveling.

Concealer (link) comes in a very convenient twist pen with sponge applicator on the end. I love its design and ease of use. I have this concealer in color 01 Macadamia, which is a light neutral shade. It feels very light on the skin and gives a pretty light coverage. I only use concealer for my undereye area and this one was ok, but I don't think it would hide major flaws. I had no problems when applying it lightly, but when I tried to build it up, the concealer started separating/gathering into spots.

I was so excited to try Dr. Hauschka foundation (link), but this was one product that didn't work for me at all. The shade 01 Macadamia was a great match for me (light neutral shade), but I just couldn't apply it nicely. It has a strong, but pleasant scent. This foundation has light to medium coverage and since I'm used to using medium to full coverage foundations I tried apply a few layers to get the desired application. I tried both makeup sponge and brush, but I just didn't get the result I wanted. I'm not a fan of light coverage as I feel that something is missing in my makeup. However, when I tried to build up this foundation, the result seemed to get worse as foundation started separating and getting patchy. I'm not sure if it's because of oxidation or thicker layers, but my face had darker areas and I looked like a zebra.

I was skeptical about color correcting powder (link) as the shades are light and very neutral, so it would be hard to get a strong correcting effect from it. I tried it both on my bare skin and as a setting powder on liquid foundation. I didn't like it on bare skin as it reduced any imperfections that I had, but didn't hide/conceal/correct anything (e.g. the redness on my cheeks was less red, but it was still visible and still red). I wasn't sure how it will act as a setting powder, but I tried that option too and I love it! Once this powder touches the face, it applies and blends into the skin so beautifully that it seems like it disappeared. It binds foundation so perfectly giving my face a very fresh look and keeping makeup in place all day long. It doesn't look cakey on the skin and it doesn't move throughout the day.

Another product that surprised me is bronzing powder (link). I loved it from the moment I saw it, but when I tried it for the first time I can't keep my hands aways from it and I've been using it every day. It is a light bronzer that is barely visible when swatched on my hand, but it shows up pretty well on my face. I only apply it to my cheeks and often use it to blend together other cheek products. It applies very evenly and blends easily.

I'm a fan of  Dr. Hauschka volume mascara and gone through a couple tubes of it and now I got a chance to try defining mascara (link). This mascara promises to separate and define each lash and it delivers this promise. Overall, I prefer more volume in my lashes, so the look with this mascara is too natural for my taste, but it works great when layered with other mascaras that make lashes thicker. It's also good by itself when I want to wear makeup, but want very natural and simple look. This mascara lasts well through the day and doesn't flake.

More or less I liked all of the products and all are bing used (except for foundation), but my favorites are definitely color correcting powder and bronzing powder as both became part of my everyday makeup routine.
